Receiving is probably the most controversial topic in training catchers. There’s lots of different techniques: stick it, elbow under, elbow up But most everyone has the same goal: keep strikes strikes, catch the balls, and win the borderline pitches I’d encourage each catcher to: -Learn all of the ways -Figure out what works best for you Find a coach who can explain each way and help you implement it. I teach elbow up and screwing the hand up to the shoulder because I believe it’s the best way.

This is exactly why we spend as much time as we do working on receiving techniques. Our number one job as catchers is to keep all strikes and earn a few more.
