The North East was at the centre of a global event today. We went to Locomotion, the National Railway Museum at Shildon, where the whistle of the North Eastern Railway’s locomotive 910 was sounded once more. It was part of the biggest railway heritage mass participation event ever to signal the start of the 200th anniversary of the modern railway | The Northern Echo

One of the world’s most famous and historic steam locomotives has arrived wrapped in a blue tarpaulin on the back of a low loader at Shildon 🚂 The layers of protective packaging were slowly removed to reveal Rocket, built by Robert and George Stephenson in Newcastle 195 years, had come to take up residence at the Locomotion museum 😍 Read more here: http://bit.ly/3ZaLKXK | The Northern Echo
