The trench scene in 1917 was filmed to look like one continuous shot, though it was actually made up of many long takes seamlessly stitched together. Director Sam Mendes and cinematographer Roger Deakins built nearly a mile of real trenches at Bovingdon Airfield, choreographing every actor and camera move before filming.
